SELCCU believes that being part of a community is more than just location, community means giving back and helping out when and how we can. For that reason we established the Care Connection, whose sole purpose is to find ways to reach out to the communities in Lorain County. We do this through collections of various resources, fundraisers, and bake sales just to name a few avenues.
Annual Toy & Food Drive
Help brighten up the holidays for Lorain County families in need! We will be collecting toys and food items at both of our offices for the Salvation Army until Saturday, December 9th.
- Toys: New, unwrapped toys for boys & girls ages 0-14
- Food: Non-expired, non-perishable food items
Fall Decoration Contest
Once again SELCCU staff has divided up into teams and decorated autumn wreaths. It’s up to you to decide which team wins! Stop in one of our branches and use your spare change to vote for which wreath you think is the best. Not only can you vote for your favorite wreath, but at the end of the voting period you have the opportunity to bid on your favorite wreath to take it home. Funds raised during voting and bidding will benefit Genesis House. We will also be collecting supplies for Genesis House in our branches. The items we are collecting include:
During September we collected donations in our lobbies for Hurricane Relief throughout the Gulf Coast. In addition to this collection we also hosted a bake sale and raised over $470 to donate to CUAid. Thank you to everyone who made a donation and enjoyed a delicious treat at our bake sale!
Lorain County School Supply Donation
In addition to our Build-A-Backpack Loan Program, we collected items in both our branches to donate to students in every district in Lorain County. This year we were able to donate 350 backpacks to help students learn! Thank you to everyone who financed a loan with us this summer and made a physical donation in our lobby.
Downtown Lorain's Adopt A Square
The Lorain County National Council of Negro Women, The Lorain Arts Council, Invest Lorain and Lorain’s Street Department are giving the community the chance to enhance Lorain by adopting a square downtown or participating in the Ward to Ward Beautification Project.“Adopt-A-Square” allows residents or organizations to choose a square on Broadway between Third and Ninth streets in downtown, according to Sylvia Duvall, program chair of the National Council of Negro Women. Read more about the Lorain County Adopt-A-Square program click here.
Friendship Animal Protective League
In lieu of National Bring Your Dog To Work Day, on June 23, we sponsored a cutest dog contest where SELCCU staff brought in photos of their dog. Members had the opportunity to cast a vote while we collected donations for the Friendship Animal Protective League in Lorain County. Throughout the week of June 19-23 we collected $300 to donate to the shelter to help ensure the animals there are given excellent care along with quality food and supplies.
Blessing House's Children's Crisis Center
Throughout April we collected items for Blessing House’s Children’s Crisis Center. Thank you to everyone who helped us fill up our donation box! These items help support children of families in crisis. The Blessing House serves as a safety net for children of families in crisis by providing a temporary safe home for children and support for their families.
The Children's Development Center
This February we raised over $500 for The Children's Development Center with our Valentine's Bake Sale! Thank you to everyone who stopped in for a treat, or two. The Children's Development Center is the only facility in Lorain County dedicated to providing therapy services to children with physical, communicative, and developmental challenges.
The Salvation Army
Thank you for all your kind donations throughout the holiday season. Together we raised over $300 and our toy box was overflowing with generous gifts! Everything was delivered to The Salvation Army so everyone could have a holiday to remember.
